Overview

Khadija Monifa “Bunny” Shaw is a Jamaican professional footballer widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. She is Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer and Jamaica’s all-time top goalscorer for both women and men. Shaw holds the record for the most hat tricks in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and was named CONCACAF Player of the Year in 2022.

Club Career

Bordeaux (2019–2021)

Shaw began her professional club career with Division 1 Féminine team Bordeaux in 2019. She had an immediate impact, finishing as the league’s top scorer in the 2020–21 season. She was twice named Division 1 Player of the Month and earned a place in the league’s Team of the Year.

Manchester City (2021–Present)

2021–22 Season:
Shaw joined Manchester City in 2021 on a three-year deal. In her debut season, she was primarily a backup striker but still contributed significantly, winning the FA Women’s League Cup and finishing as the club’s second-highest scorer.

2022–23 Season:
Shaw became City’s first-choice striker, breaking the club’s single-season scoring record. She finished the season with 31 goals in 30 games across all competitions and was named Manchester City’s Player of the Season. She also earned a spot in the WSL Team of the Year and was nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

2023–24 Season:
Shaw continued her dominance, becoming the WSL’s all-time leading hat-trick scorer and Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer. She was named FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year and WSL Player of the Season.

International Career

Shaw has represented Jamaica at multiple youth levels before making her senior debut in 2015. She played a crucial role in Jamaica’s historic qualification for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, making them the first Caribbean nation to achieve this milestone. She led the team again in the 2023 World Cup, where Jamaica reached the Round of 16 for the first time in history.

Early Life & College Career

Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Shaw was the youngest of 13 siblings. She was nicknamed “Bunny” by her brother due to her childhood love of carrots. She played youth football at St. Jago High School before moving to the U.S. on a scholarship.

Shaw played two years at Eastern Florida State College before transferring to the University of Tennessee, where she transitioned from midfield to striker. She was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018.
