History of the Reggae Boyz
More than a century of Jamaican football — from the island's very first team to the road to World Cup 2026.
The early years
Football in Jamaica dates back to 1893, when the Kingston Cricket Club formed the island's first football team. By 1910, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) was established to oversee the sport's development.
Jamaica's first recorded international matches took place in 1925, when the national team was invited to Haiti for a three-match series — winning all three (1–0, 2–1, 3–0). The following year, Haiti travelled to Jamaica for a rematch at Sabina Park, where the home team dominated 6–0.
Jamaica made its international tournament debut at the 1930Central American Games in Cuba. Between 1925 and 1962, the team regularly competed against Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti and Cuba, as well as touring club sides like Haitian Racing CH, Violette AC, the British Corinthians and the Argentinean Tigers.
In 1952, a Caribbean All-Star team — featuring top players from Trinidad, Cuba, Haiti and Suriname — played a four-match series against Jamaica at Sabina Park. The results split evenly: Jamaica took the second (2–1) and fourth (1–0) matches; the All-Stars won the first (5–1) and third (1–0). These early years laid the foundation for Jamaica's football culture.
